Canadian Deceased Registry™ Reports September 2025 Deaths in Canada

Canada recorded 16,827 deaths in September 2025, a 2% decline from August and 13% fewer than September 2024. This marks the third straight month of easing totals and one of the lowest monthly levels in two years.

The average age at death held at 78.0 years, consistent with long-term patterns and only slightly above August’s 77.9. Meanwhile, the national mortality rate was 41.7 deaths per 100,000 population, down from 42.5 in August.

  • Ontario: 6,764 deaths (↓1% MoM), rate 42.8 per 100K, avg. age 78.4 years.

  • Quebec: 4,204 deaths (↓3% MoM), rate 47.0 per 100K, avg. age 79.5.

  • British Columbia: 1,291 deaths (↓11% MoM), rate 23.1 per 100K, avg. age 79.0 — lowest provincial mortality rate nationwide.

  • Alberta: 1,541 deaths (↑4% MoM), rate 32.4 per 100K, avg. age 76.8.

  • Manitoba: 689 deaths (flat MoM), rate 47.0 per 100K, avg. age 75.7.

  • Saskatchewan: 586 deaths (↓4% MoM), rate 48.1 per 100K, avg. age 74.1.

  • Nova Scotia: 674 deaths (↓1% MoM), rate 63.2 per 100K, avg. age 76.5.

  • New Brunswick: 634 deaths (↓10% MoM), rate 75.2 per 100K, avg. age 76.1.
