October saw 18,364 recorded deaths across Canada, a 9% increase from September and roughly 5% below October 2024. The rise breaks a three-month easing trend and brings mortality closer to seasonal norms heading into winter. The average age at death increased slightly to 78.2 years, while the national mortality rate rose to 45.5 deaths per 100,000 population.

📍 Provincial Highlights

  • Ontario reported 7,182 deaths (↑6% MoM), a return to early-summer levels. Mortality rate: 45.4 per 100K, average age: 78.5 years.

  • Quebec climbed to 4,841 deaths (↑15% MoM), marking the largest provincial increase. Mortality rate: 54.0 per 100K, average age: 79.6 years.

  • British Columbia rose to 1,457 deaths (↑13% MoM), rate 26.1 per 100K, average age: 79.0 years — still the lowest provincial rate nationally.
  • Alberta ticked up to 1,580 deaths (↑3% MoM), rate 33.0 per 100K, average age: 77.0 years.
  • Manitoba increased to 772 deaths (↑12% MoM), rate 52.8 per 100K, average age: 76.1 years.

  • Saskatchewan recorded 710 deaths (↑21% MoM), rate 58.3 per 100K, average age: 74.8 years.

  • Nova Scotia and New Brunswick each saw small gains — 678 (↑1%) and 672 (↑6%) deaths, respectively — while Newfoundland & Labrador rose to 364 deaths (↑10%).

  • Prince Edward Island edged slightly lower to 108 deaths (↓4%), maintaining one of the country’s smallest mortality totals.
